SALT LAKE CITY – August 17th , 2015 – Nationally acclaimed professional dancer Chelsie Hightower is visiting DF Dance Studio on Saturday, August 29th for a 2-hour long all-levels workshop focusing on Cha Cha and Rumba, two popular Latin Ballroom styles. Workshops will take place between 12pm and 2pm. Beginners are welcome and students don’t need to bring a partner to join the workshop.

This workshop is a part of “DF Masters Workshop Series” that aims to bring renowned dancers, instructors and choreographers to benefit Salt Lake dance community. With this workshop, Ms. Hightower will be joining DF Dance Studio instructors’ team as a guest choreographer and Latin Ballroom coach and she will be available for private lessons year-round.

Chelsie Hightower has started her dance career in Utah at the age of 9 and since then she developed a rich background in Ballroom, Jazz, Ballet and Hip Hop. She and her partner has become the National Ten-Dance Champions, travelled around the globe for competitions and represented USA in the world’s biggest Ballroom Competition in Blackpool, England. Her talent in dancing have shined through the screens of National TV shows “Dancing with the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance” for numerous seasons.

Latin Ballroom dance styles that Chelsie is going to teach include Cha Cha and Rumba. Cha Cha is a fun, flirty dance that grew out of the Cuban Mambo and became immensely popular in the United States in the 1950’s. This is an exuberant dance that will get everybody’s heart pumping and put a smile on their face. Students in this class will learn Cuban leg action, hip action and plenty of syncopations. On the other hand, Rumba is universally recognized as the dance of love. It is danced to slow, sensual music with a Latin beat and features a hip action known as “Cuban Motion”. Rumba is great for beginning dancers as it teaches excellent posture and balance. Students will also learn a variety of rumba steps, hip action and Rumba styling. This dance of love is one of the most popular ballroom dances and is seen around the world at nightclubs, parties, weddings and dance competitions.
